If you are a Private Patient with Medical Insurance
You should be referred by your GP, your dentist, or another Consultant, depending upon the nature of your problem.
The removal of unsightly facial skin lesions which are clinically benign (i.e. not cancerous) is not usually funded by the NHS or by Private Medical Insurance Companies. I am always happy to see patients with such lesions to discuss treatment options with such lesions, and give professional advice on the pros and cons of surgery.
Private Consultations and Surgery are currently offered at Mount Alvernia Hospital.
Following the pandemic, some consultations and reviews are offered remotely by phone or video, with the aid of photos where needed.
We continue to offer these where clinically safe to do so, and where a patient finds this more convenient.
My team and I are recognised by all Private Medical Insurance Companies, and I do not charge outside Insurance Company rates.
If You are a Self-funding Private Patient
A referral is not necessary, and you are welcome to contact me directly. I would like to keep your GP informed as part of good medical practice.
Self-funding private consultations cost £250 and reviews are £160. We make sure there is time to explore possible options to help you with your problem, so that you have the information needed to decide how to proceed. Detailed written information is provided about any possible surgery, including explanatory drawings where relevant, and you will receive personal letters and results addressed to you which are about you.
Following an initial consultation, we offer patients who would like to self-fund surgery, inclusive fixed price quotations, which include any necessary follow-up appointments for that specific issue. Surgery quotations include hospital fees and anaesthetist's and pathologist's fees where applicable. These fees are not set by me. Estimated costs can be given prior to a consultation for those who wish to explore private care, but the exact treatment indicated, and thus any future costs, can only be determined following a consultation.
Total self pay costs for simple removal of a single skin lesion under local anaesthetic are from £1400 including consultation and follow up, but will be higher for multiple lesions, or for more complex procedures. Multiple lesions can sometimes be removed in one session, but this will depend upon the type of lesion, the position, and the number.
I do not have any financial investment in any private hospitals and have no conflicts of interest that may impact upon patient care. Our Practice is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office and holds any patient data in line with ICO and GMC regulations.
My time allocated to private practice is limited, and there may be a small wait to see me for a consultation. We plan our surgical lists well ahead and when you contact us, we can often suggest suitable times for possible future surgery and pencil you in. This means that patients can receive treatment quickly after their consultation and at a pre-planned time to suit them.

Following an NHS sabbatical, I retired from NHS clinical work in July 2023. I am not able to routinely refer patients directly for NHS treatment.
